What is Bruxism?

Bruxism means you grind or clench your teeth.

While it may be possible to refrain from grinding and clenching while awake, some people do these things during sleep. This is called nocturnal bruxism.

You may wake up with:

  • a sore jaw,
  • a headache,
  • toothache,
  • a migraine
  • or pain in your face or neck.

Without treatment, bruxism may lead to:

  •  TMJ/TMD,
  • cavities,
  • tooth breakage and even tooth loss.

What is TMJ/TMD?

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction is a condition that produces pain in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles that control jaw movement.

A clicking or popping sound, on one or both sides of your jaw, can also occur on either opening or closing your mouth.

The Effects of Bruxism That Nobody Talks About

Brain Fog

Are you having trouble concentrating due to your jaw pain and headaches?

A lot of people struggling with migraines describe difficulty studying, reading or concentrating because of the pain.

This can also be because the pain of headaches and migraines often causes sleeping difficulties, which can lead to low energy levels during the day, making it even harder to push past the pain and do simple daily tasks.

Feeling Down

Are jaw pain, headaches and migraines starting to rule your life?

Are they stopping you from doing the things you love?

Are you tired of having to cancel plans due to an attack or jaw pain or a migraine?

Are you worried that this isn't going to go away or get better?

It is very common to experience feelings of depression when you are having ongoing pain.

The Melbourne Bruxism + TMJ Freedom Program

We Have Helped 100s of People Just Like You With Our 3 StepĀ Bruxism/TMJ Program

1: Comprehensive TMJ Consultation

Our knowledgeable and experienced team will take all detailed history of your symptoms to discover the:

  • intensity,
  • frequency,
  • triggers

and discuss any previous treatment you may have tried.

Our practitioner will examine your jaw, neck and shoulders.

We will then recommend a treatment plan tailored to your specific case and symptom pattern.

Step 2: Unique Holistic Approach

Our osteopaths will help you to identify what your triggers are and tailor a program that may be able to help to break the cycle of jaw pain.

There are many factors that can aggravate and trigger TMJ pain and bruxism. Our program brings together:

  • hands-on treatment
  • specific diet and lifestyle changes
  • gentle cranial osteopathy techniques

so that all the factors are addressed in a holistic approach that is tailored to you.

Step 3: Breaking the Cycle

Whether your goal is to be able to:

  • Get back to normal and feel like yourself again
  • Sleep through the night without waking with a migraine, headaches or jaw pain.

This vital step will help you break the cycle for good by addressing the root cause of the problem, and help you to identify and manage triggers.
