What Is Paediatric Osteopathy/Osteopathy for Children?
Paediatric Osteopathy is the use of gentle osteopathic techniques specifically chosen for the treatment babies, children, teens and perinatal mums.
Paediatric Osteopathy utilises a range of techniques including stretching, massage and other gentle techniques including cranial.
Osteopaths understand that there may be a number of contributing factors to the symptoms and evaluate not only the area which is producing the symptoms, but also associated areas that may be contributing to the issue, including a long or difficult birth.
Birth may be a stressful experience for both mum and baby. The forces exerted on the baby can be considerable, particularly when the position of the head or shoulders slows or prevents the process, and so new-born babies may be in some discomfort following birth. That’s where osteopathy for babies can help.
Is Osteopathy The Right Choice for You and Your Family?
This program could be the solution for :
Babies: Muscular tensions can affect babies in many different ways, including discomfort in the feeding position, favouring turning their head one way when sleeping, and difficulties with digestion. Gentle osteopathic techniques can help release and balance areas of physical tension, helping to soothe and relax as well as promoting freer movement where muscles have been tight.
- Young Children: Young children present a wide range of childhood conditions such as digestion issues, aches and pains, circulatory problems, as well as more complex conditions. Our osteopaths will evaluate , we may suggest exercises to practice at home in addition to returning for follow-up treatments.
- Teenagers: as well as the usual childhood conditions, we may see teenagers with sports injuries, pain caused by poor posture, the impact of rapid physical and emotional development, and the inability to relax caused by the stress of school or the pressures of teenage life.
Pregnant/Post-Natal Women: When you become pregnant, your body undergoes significant and rapid changes. The physical exertion on our bodies during birth can put a lot of strain on the body. These notable physical changes can impact on our muscles and ligaments. The gentle, non-invasive techniques used by our osteopaths can offer relief to some of those tensions and stresses on mum’s body, and therefore promoting an improved sense of wellbeing.
