Baby Colic

A colicky, unsettled and crying baby is a common problem with many causes.

Although colic can be brought about by food intolerances, other medical conditions, or just your baby’s “personality”, a key cause of your baby being unsettled can be the stresses and strains they went through in the birth process.

Prior to birth the baby is being pushed up against the mother’s pelvis and the birth process itself puts enormous pressures through the head and neck of the child. This is even more so when forceps or suction are required.  These forces can lead to strains through the neck and the very soft and moldable skull of the baby.

If these strains don’t resolve, the baby can get symptoms of: being colicky,  not sleeping,  is happy when being held, but then cries when it has to lie down     prefers breast feeding on one side but not the other (can’t turn its head),  only turns its head one way.

If your baby has any of these problems or you want your baby assessed for muscular and joint strains after their birth, make an appointment by calling 03 9863 9522.
